Rock Camp Jumpstart is a summer camp for girls aged 5 – 7. Based on the organization’s award-winning program for older kids, Rock Camp Jumpstart gives campers the opportunity to write their own music and experiment with sound and movement through a wide variety of fun activities.
The camp week includes workshops on musical instruments (drums, guitar, bass, vocals and keyboards), performances by visiting artists, art activities like button-making, and the favorite activity of our camp for older girls: band practice.
In band practice, campers work in small groups of 3 – 5 girls over the course of the week to write an original song. The bands perform their songs at a showcase concert on the Friday afternoon of camp, to the thunderous applause of an audience made up of their peers, teachers, counselors, family and friends.
No musical experience necessary. Our small teacher/camper ratio allows campers to enjoy a high degree of individual attention and work in small groups. Campers with previous musical experience can advance their skills, and beginners get the chance to learn basics and try out different instruments.
All of our activities focus on music, creativity, confidence, and collaboration. Our counselors and teachers provide a warm, encouraging environment for campers to try out new sounds and make new friends.
Each camp day includes two snack times, a quiet time for resting, listening to music or napping, and free play. Campers bring their own lunches and snacks.

An extended day option is available until 5 p.m. for $25/day.
The 2015 camp will take place at Brooklyn High School of the Arts, located in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn at 345 Dean Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue. The building is wheelchair accessible. WHO MAY APPLY FOR CAMP
Rock Camp Jumpstart is open to self-identified girls and trans youth aged 5-7. No music experience necessary! Enrollment is limited to 40 campers; registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Financial assistance available.
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations made are tax deductible, and much appreciated. Applications fees and tuition, however, are not donations, and therefore are not tax deductible.
REDUCED TUITION/FINANCIAL AID
Reduced tuition is available for campers from low- and moderate-income households. Please indicate your interest in applying for financial aid on your registration form, and fill out the additional requested information in the application.
Registration forms will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Rock Camp reserves the right to accept or deny enrollment for any reason.
Upon receipt of your registration form, we will send you a notice via e-mail confirming that we have received it. Notifications are sent out once a week. If you have not received a notice within 2 weeks after you send in your application, call us at 347-599-0716. Please don’t call unless you haven’t received a confirmation and it has been a full two weeks since you sent in your application!
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national and/or ethnic origin, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity/expression in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, financial aid, and other camp-related policies and programs, as well as volunteer and employment-related policies and activities.
We do not refund or pro-rate fees. If you need to cancel, please notify the office right away. If you must cancel, up to 3 weeks prior to a camp’s start date, we will attempt to fill your space from the wait list. If the spot is filled, a service fee of $75 will be deducted from the refund amount. In the event of medical emergency, credit for a future session may be available. Please note that absolutely no refunds will be issued after the start of the program. If you choose to donate your tuition fee, you will be given a tax receipt.
