Partner Programs
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is proud to be partnering with community organizations on the following programs:
BED-STUY YMCA TEEN JAM
|
Friday Night Ladies Jam is an informal music club for young women who play – or want to play – guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or vocals and are members of the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA. Guided by adult coaches, young women of all levels of musical experience have the chance to try out playing different musical instruments, learn songs, songwriting and musicianship basics, hone their musical skills, and have fun playing music together. |
HETRICK-MARTIN INSTITUTE DJ LOUNGE
|
DJ Lounge is an informal music club for woman identified and trans youth (and their allies) who want to lean the rudiments of being a DJ, and youth who want to enjoy music DJ’d by their peers (come dance!). Guided by an adult instructor, interested youth have the chance to learn basic DJ skills and spin brief sets, using Willie Mae Rock Camp’s or HMI members’ own music collection from their mp3 player or phone. |
| URBAN ASSEMBLY SCHOOL OF MUSIC & ART DJ LAB |
Part of the innovative X-Studio curriculum at the Urban Assembly School of Music and Art, DJ Lab is an after school program for high school girls that combines hands-on instruction in DJ techniques with a study of the history and evolution of dance music as a form of cultural and political expression. Willie Mae Music Lab also provides in- and out-of-school programming and support and has served as a destination for school field trips. |
PUBLIC PROGRAMS & EVENTS
|
| Rock Camp bands have played at high-visibility events such as the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, the BAM Kids Film Festival, and the Women’s History Month celebration at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Rock camp provides programming and mini-lessons at a variety of corporate, public, and private events, such as mini DJ lessons at Fashion’s Night Out. |
