WMRC provides a wide range of programs and services to schools, community organizations, youth service providers, cultural event presenting groups, and more.
In –school, Afterschool, and Out of School Programs. Available offerings include Rhythm and Voice (a weekly vocals, percussion, and composition class), songwriting workshops, and one-day, school-wide mini-camps featuring instrument mini-lessons and art. Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls educators are also available to work with partners to plan and develop a curriculum or project focused on a specific theme or topic. Current and past partners include Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA, Young Women’s Leadership Network Schools, I.S. 136, M.S. 385, Community Partnership Charter School, and Blue School.
Field trips. Very affordable group rate tickets available to Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls summer showcase concerts, which are held at 12 p.m. on select Saturdays in July and August. For more information about showcases, click here.
Performances. Camper bands are occasionally available for performances booked by WMRC. They are not available for volunteer/pro bono engagements. Rock Camp bands have played at high-visibility events such as the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, the BAM Kids Film Festival, and the Women’s History Month celebration at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Professional development. “Instant Song” trains educators in how to use basic songwriting activities to enhance and enrich other learning and recreational activities. No musical experience or music gear required to incorporate “Instant Song” activities in youth programs.
