The first-ever Rock ‘n Bowl-a-thon was a thundering success! Bowlers enjoyed a fantastically fun afternoon at Frames on September 15, and thanks to their fundraising prowess, the bowl-a-thon raised more than $17,000 — beating the original fundraising goal by a whopping 70%! All-star judges, including actress Jessica Pimentel of Orange is the New Black, awarded prizes in many categories, including Best Team Name and Lowest Bowling Score. The campaign benefitted Wilie Mae’s Fairness Fund, which allows Willie Mae to offer its music and mentoring programs free of charge or with sliding-scale tuition to youth. Check out photos here.
Thanks to Dawn Orlando, owner of Funkadelic Studios, campers at Ladies Rock Camp get the chance to play in a professional rehearsal studio that has a strong track record (no pun intended) of supporting female musicians. Funkadelic Studios, which has been the official sponsor of Ladies Rock Camp since 2012, provides a full range of rehearsal and recording services and community events for NYC musicians. Dawn answered some questions from Funkadelic’s new location near Times Square — read the interview here.
